      I did my PhD on controlling the reactivity and properties of semiconductor surfaces. Semiconductors are at the heart of practically every device around us and are key, for example, in solar cell technology. My PhD focused on using different chemicals to what’s called passivate the surfaces of silicon and other semiconductors: to make them much less reactive.
